About Us

Valley Cricketers was started by a group of computer professionals from Bangalore, which is known as the Silicon Valley of India. The team started playing tennis ball matches in 1993. It was an exciting phase of sheer fun for the next four years.

The club stepped up to playing serious cricket by joining the Northern California Cricket Association (NCCA) in 1997. The team began on a successful note in the "C" division by winning the first four games and by almost making it to the "B" division with a season record of 8 wins and 8 losses.

With the goal of making it to the "B" division, the team began the 1998 season on an exciting note; Valley won a spate of games. They triumphed as the "C" division champions in the final game of the season. Mr. Sandeep Badida won the NCCA's Most Valuable Player award and Mr. Vamshidhar Kandala won the NCCA's Best Fielder award. The 1999 and 2000 seasons have seen mediocre scores in the competitive "B" division.

Valley played their best season of cricket in the year 2001. Their determination and team work helped convert many a close games to victories. Valley won the "B" Division Championship with a commendable 13-Win 2-Loss 1-Tie record and claimed a spot in the "A" division for the 2002 season.

Most of the players comprising Valley Cricketers have played competitive cricket in India. Some of Valley's players, like Mr. Vinay Badami and Mr. Sunny Ramesh, have played first class cricket in India (India schools XI and Ranji Trophy).

Valley is fortunate in getting coaching tips from Mr. Syed Abid Ali (former Test Cricketer from India). As a well-wisher of Valley, he periodically helps the team with his abundant knowledge and experience.

The team plays cricket for fun and for the passion of the game. Valley considers the games as major social events. The family atmosphere and players' positive attitudes have combined to attract a dedicated group of cricket lovers. In the last 5 seasons in the NCCA, Valley Cricketers have never defaulted on any commitment, be it umpiring, conduct (on or off the field), timely submission of scorecards etc., thereby maintaining one of the cleanest records with the NCCA.

The Valley Cricketers team is currently sponsored by:
1. Riverstone Networks of Santa Clara, CA (www.riverstonenetworks.com)
2. Raza Foundries of Santa Clara, CA (www.razafoundries.com)

Both companies assist with the promotion of cricket in the San Francisco Bay Area. In the 1997 and 1998 seasons, Valley was sponsored by Infobase of Fremont, CA (www.infobaseusa.com).
